This article describes how to use AMPPasswordUtility.exe. This utility can be used to obtain the AMP password of an AMP installation (the default AMP username is AmpAdmin). This can be useful if the credentials were forgotten or they were automatically generated (for example, during an Asset Lifecycle Manager installation).
This utility can also be used to encrypt and insert a new password into the Asset Lifecycle Manager database. AMPPasswordUtility.exe does not actually change the AMP password. It changes the encrypted credentials that are stored in the Asset Lifecycle Manager database. Asset Lifecycle Manager uses these credentials to authenticate to the local AMP installation. If you change the AMP password through the AMP console, you will have to use this utility to sync the passwords so that Asset Lifecycle Manager can authenticate to AMP.
It is not generally necessary to log in to AMP on the Asset Lifecycle Manager server. If you want to use AMP for synchronization, you'll need the AMP username and password on the LANDesk Management Suite core server (which you should already know), not the AMP username and password on the Asset Lifecycle Manager Server. The Asset Lifecycle Manager server has to authenticate to the AMP installation on the core server if you are using AMP for synchronization.
Resolution
1) Download and extract the attached .zip file.
2) Copy the AMPPasswordUtility.exe and AMPPasswordUtility.exe.config files to the \ServiceManagement\web\bin directory.
3) Run AMPPasswordUtility.exe using the command line switches:
encrypt={passwordToEncrypt} (where {passwordToEncrypt} is the password you want encrypted in the ALM database).
decrypt (returns the unencrypted AMP password stored in the ALM database)
