Problem:

The ALM Web Console is set by default to timout in 20 minutes. Some users find this timeout period too short, and would like to adjust the timeout to a time that works better for their working environment.

Solution:

1- Open IIS

2- Expand Sites

3- Expand the Default Web Site

4- Click on the ServiceManagement virtual directory

5- Click on the Session state icon (Double-click)

6- At the bottom there is a time-out (in minutes) that is set to 20. Change the timeout to the desired setting.

**Note:

Changing the timeout setting has been tested in a lab environment and on customer premis and has been show not to have any other side effects. Best Practices for making any chang to settings in the IIS Manager should be documented for future reference in case unknown anomolies are discovered at a later date.

Update: When using IIS 6 or 7 the following error message may display when double-clicking the Session State icon: "Configuration section encryption is not supported".

Resolution: This is an issue with IIS 6 and 7. Patching/Upgrading to IIS 7.5 will correct the problem. However, the change can also be made manually. See instructions below:

1- Edit the web.config file located in C:\Program Files\LANDesk\ServiceManagement\Web

2- Add or change the timeout lines at the end of the system.web section to reflect the time desired. See example below...this is setting a timeout of 40 seconds:
