Introduction
There is an outstanding Enhancement Request (http://community.landesk.com/support/ideas/2375) to add a "Change Group" feature to Self Service to allow End Users to change their current group. In the meantime this document describes an unofficial solution.
This solution allows you to add a gadget to a dashboard with a dropdown list of available groups and lets you choose which to set as your current group. Unlike other solutions the change is immediate and does not require you to log out and back in.
Note: This solution is provided "as is" and is not a formally supported or shipped part of the released product. No commitment is made by LANDesk to modify or enhance the solution and it may be superseded or replaced by a product feature in the future. It has been tested with Service Desk versions 7.4, 7.5 and 7.6 and with all major supported web browsers.
The "Change Group" feature once implemented
Implementation
The following steps will guide you through implementing this feature into your Self Service:
1. On the server hosting Web Access create a new sub-folder called ChangeGroupPlugin under the main WebAccess folder.
The default path for Service Desk version 7.4 is C:\inetpub\wwwroot\WebAccess.
The default path for Service Desk version 7.5 and onwards is C:\Program Files (x86)\LANDesk\Service Desk\WebApp\WebAccess.
2. Downoad the attached ZIP file and extract the ChangeGroup.html and ChangeGroup.js files into the ChangeGroupPlugin folder created in step 1.
3. Log in to Self Service as an administrator and view a dashboard in Design Mode.
4. Create a new Web Page gadget and name it "Change Group" or anything else suitable of your choice.
5. When prompted set the Url for the gadget to "../../ChangeGroupPlugin/ChangeGroup.html" without the quotes.
