Considerations before upgrading
There have been a number of changes to the platforms supported by Service Desk in version 7.6 so existing customers should review the list of changes in the New Features and Supported Platforms guides linked above. Some specific changes to note are as follows:
Server Operating Systems
Support has been added for:
- Windows Server 2012
Support has been dropped for:
- Windows Server 2003
- Windows Server 2008 (Windows Server 2008 R2 is supported)
Client Operating Systems
Support (for Console) has been added for:
- Windows 8
Support (for Console) has been dropped for:
- Windows XP
- Windows Vista
Note that these changes are only for Console support and NOT for Web Access. Support for Web Access is browser-dependant and not related to the Operating System. The Service Desk installer will detect if you are using a valid Operating System during setup, however if you deploy Console via One Touch or other systems you might bypass this check. This could lead to Console being run on a non-supported Operating System which will cause unpredictable results and is strongly discouraged.
Database Platforms
Support has been added for:
- SQL Server 2012
Support has been dropped for:
- SQL Server 2008 and below (SQL Server 2008 R2 is supported)
- Oracle 11g R1 and below (Oracle 11g R2 is supported)
Internet Explorer 7 and 8
Support for Internet Explorer 7 and 8 has changed. These versions now require the Google Chrome Frame plug-in. Please see this document for full details:
